Why these numbers

The Nami is tiny and light with a short wheelbase, so it rotates beautifully — and bites back just as fast. The trap is over-tuning for rotation: it already turns, and it makes so little power that a too-loose rear just scrubs away its meagre exit drive. So you manage the tail from both ends. The Differential carries more coast lock than usual to catch the quick lift-off bite, with only moderate power lock so you don’t waste the drive you have.

Everything else is a steadying hand on a nervous car — soft-ish rear bar, rear toe-in, honest brake balance. Follow the surface for the rest: locked diff and soft/high on loose, opener diff and stiff/low on grip. The Final Drive stays short to keep the peaky little four in its powerband. Brake Pressure’s scale runs 50–150%, so 100% is mid-travel, not the maximum.

Why these changes

On asphalt the Nami finally has grip to lean on, and it can carry real corner speed for such a small car. The springs and bars stiffen, brake pressure climbs, and the car drops closer to the road — and the diff opens up: on high grip a locked diff breaks both rear wheels loose together, so a looser diff keeps the exit progressive.

Win on line and momentum, not slides. Brake in a straight line — that quick rear bite is unforgiving if you trail into the corner and unsettle it.

Why these changes

Gravel is the middle ground and sits closest to the hybrid setup — the changes are small. The Nami is at its most fun here, rotating on the throttle, but the bite is quick; keep corrections small, which matters double on a pad where a big stick input overshoots.

Ride the momentum and stay smooth. A tidy, flowing line beats a lurid slide every time in a car this underpowered.

Why these changes

Mud is the lowest-grip surface, and on this little car the rear steps out with almost no warning. Soften the springs and bars, raise the ride height to clear the ruts, and lock the diff up: on low grip a tight diff drives both rear wheels instead of spinning the inside one away, and the loose surface still lets you steer with the throttle.

Carry your speed in — the Nami has next to no power to make it back up. Momentum through the corner, not drive out of it, is how you win here.

Overview

The Nami is a light rear-drive roadster in the mould of a 1989 Mazda MX-5 Miata (NA), and it is one of the most rewarding cars here to drive well. It is very light with a short wheelbase and a near-50/50 balance, so it rotates beautifully — but the same balance means it bites just as fast, and its peaky, low-torque four means you win on momentum and line rather than by driving out of corners on power.

How it drives

On tarmac the Nami turns in crisply and rotates on demand, which makes it feel alive but leaves you managing oversteer from two directions at once. Lift off mid-corner and the light tail swings wide in lift-off oversteer; get greedy on exit and the rear steps out under power. The engine is peaky and short on torque, so the pace comes from carrying speed through the corner on a clean line, not from powering out of it.

On loose surfaces that rotation is easy to provoke and satisfying to steer with the throttle, but it happens quickly — this car wants small, precise inputs, not big flicks. The danger is setting it so loose that it scrubs away its already meagre exit drive; a slightly calmer rear is usually faster than a tail-happy one.

In a pack the Nami is one of the smallest and lightest cars, so contact moves it easily and a hit from a heavier car will spin it. Its defence is agility and corner speed — keep it clean and out of the scrum rather than trading blows.
