Why these numbers

The Rammer is a heavy understeer tank, so the whole setup fights the nose to find bite. The anti-roll bars are the biggest lever: a soft front bar and a stiff rear bar shift roll stiffness rearward, which frees the front to turn in and lets the tail rotate the car for you. Plenty of front camber and a soft front spring back that up.

The Differential runs opposite to instinct: locked on loose, opener on grip. On mud and gravel a tight diff drives both rear wheels and puts the torque down; on asphalt it would snap both wheels loose together, so opening it keeps the exit progressive. Brake Pressure’s scale runs 50–150%, so 100% is mid-travel, not the maximum — and this car sits above it, because a 1,633 kg sedan needs a lot of stopping.

Why these changes

On asphalt the Rammer finally has grip to lean on, so the springs and bars stiffen, brake pressure climbs, and the car drops closer to the road. The diff opens up: on high grip a locked diff breaks both rear wheels loose together, so a looser diff keeps the exit progressive. More front camber helps the outside tyre find an edge through the reluctant nose.

Brake early and smooth — this is a momentum rammer, not a late-braker. Set the entry speed before you turn and let the mass carry you out.

Why these changes

Gravel sits close to the hybrid setup — the changes are small. The soft-front, stiff-rear bar split does its best work here, letting the tank rotate on a surface that still forgives a slide. Steer it with the throttle and keep corrections small, which matters on a pad where a big stick input overshoots.

Use the car’s momentum. Roll the speed through the corner rather than braking hard and trying to point it — a heavy sedan carries far more than it accelerates.

Why these changes

Mud is the lowest-grip surface and the Rammer’s weight works against it — the nose pushes wide and the rear digs in. Soften everything, raise the ride height to clear the ruts, and lock the diff up so both rear wheels drive instead of spinning the inside one away. Back the brakes off; a heavy car locks its wheels easily on a loose surface.

Brake early and in a straight line, then let the car coast-rotate into the corner — trying to trail-brake this much mass into mud just plows the front.

Overview

The Rammer is a 1986 Chevrolet Caprice — a big full-size sedan, around 1,633 kg, with a torque-rich small-block over a front-biased chassis. That mass and the front weight make it an understeer tank: it pushes wide in corners and changes direction lazily, but it carries huge momentum and shrugs off impacts. This is a demolition weapon, not a corner-carver.

How it drives

On tarmac the Rammer wants to run wide. The heavy nose pushes at turn-in, and the long, heavy body is slow to take a set, so you brake early, get the car pointed, and let it roll through rather than trying to attack the apex. Trail-braking does not suit it — smooth, early braking on a straight line keeps it stable and beats trying to rotate it late.

On loose surfaces the mass still dominates: it slides wide and takes time to gather, so you drive around the understeer rather than fighting it. What it gives back is straight-line stability and the sheer momentum to bully lighter cars off line.

In a pack the Rammer is in its element. It is one of the heaviest cars on the grid, so contact moves everyone else more than it moves you — lean on that and use it as a rolling battering ram.
