Why these numbers

The Rocket is the rare muscle car with no single vice to fight, so these numbers sit close together front to rear — the anti-roll bars and springs are nearly matched, which is what keeps it neutral. Small moves swing it either way, so treat this hybrid as a centre point and lean it toward turn-in or stability to taste.

The Differential is still the biggest lever, and it runs opposite to instinct: locked on loose, opener on grip. On mud and gravel a tight diff drives both rear wheels and puts the torque down; on asphalt it snaps both loose together, so opening it keeps the exit progressive. Brake Pressure’s scale runs 50–150%, so 100% is mid-travel, not the maximum.

Why these changes

On asphalt the Rocket has real grip to lean on. The springs and bars stiffen, brake pressure climbs, and the car drops closer to the road — and the diff opens up so a locked rear axle can’t break both wheels loose together on exit.

Keep some compliance even here — Wreckfest’s tarmac is bumpy and kerbed, and a mid-corner bump can step the rear out on a car this neutral.

Why these changes

Gravel is where the Rocket’s balance pays off — it sits close to the hybrid and asks for almost nothing. The car slides predictably at both ends, so steer it with the throttle and keep corrections small, which matters on a pad where a big stick input overshoots.

Let it rotate on power and drive out of the slide; do not try to hold it dead straight.

Why these changes

Mud is the lowest-grip surface, and even a balanced car will light the rear up early. Soften the springs and bars, raise the ride height to clear the ruts, and lock the diff up so it drives both rear wheels instead of spinning the inside one away.

Feed the throttle in smoothly out of the slow corners — the Rocket rotates willingly, so a stab of power just wastes it in wheelspin.

Overview

The Rocket is a 1968 Ford Mustang at heart, and it sits in the middle of the muscle-car group in every sense. It carries the same front-heavy V8 layout as the others, but it is lighter and more evenly balanced at roughly 55/45, so none of the usual vices dominate. It is the neutral all-rounder — it turns in without much fuss and only steps the rear out mildly under power.

How it drives

On tarmac the Rocket asks less of you than the heavier bruisers. There is a touch of nose-led understeer if you overcook the entry, but it is far milder than on the big cars, and once you are pointed the low-down torque drives you out with only gentle power oversteer. Because nothing is fighting you, small setup and input changes swing the balance either way — you tune it to taste rather than to fix a dominant fault.

On dirt and gravel that neutral balance turns into easy, progressive slides you can steer with the throttle. It is forgiving enough to catch by lifting rather than by a quick correction, which makes it a friendly car to learn rear-drive rotation in.

In a pack it holds its own — heavy enough to take contact and stable enough to keep its line, without the sluggish direction changes of the full-size cars.
