FinnCross Circuit

Finland

mixedreverse available

A short Finnish rallycross circuit — mostly tarmac with a gravel loop cut through it, and the surface changes are where the lap is won.

FinnCross is the closest thing the game has to a proper rallycross circuit: a compact loop that is tarmac for most of its length with a gravel section spliced in, so every lap you cross the join between the two surfaces at least twice. It runs one main layout plus a reverse, and because it is short you get a lot of laps to learn it — a good place to start.

The surface joins are the track

On a single-surface circuit you can pick one braking reference and trust it everywhere. Here you cannot. Grip on the tarmac is high and predictable; the gravel loop is loose, the car moves around, and braking distances stretch. The corners that decide the lap are the ones right at the transition — braking on tarmac into a gravel corner, or getting on the power on gravel just before the track goes back to tarmac.

Treat the asphalt_to_gravel join like a braking marker. Do your hard braking while you are still on tarmac where the grip is, then carry a lower, more patient entry speed through the loose section. Trying to brake late on the gravel itself is the classic FinnCross mistake — the car simply slides on past the apex.

Running it in reverse

The reverse layout is slightly longer and tips a little more toward tarmac (73% versus 64%), which changes where the loose section falls relative to the fast corners. Do not assume your forward braking points mirror over — the gravel loop arrives at a different point in the lap, so relearn the transitions specifically. Everything else you know about the venue carries.

What to work on here

This is the ideal track to drill surface-change braking, which is the single most useful skill on Wreckfest’s mixed circuits. See Braking on Loose Surfaces. Because you spend real time on both grip levels, a neutral, hybrid-leaning setup works better than anything tuned for one surface — the generic RWD guide’s hybrid tab is a sensible starting point.
