Why these numbers

Front-wheel drive inverts most of what you do to a rear-drive car. The front tyres already steer and drive, so they are always the limiting factor; the whole job is to take work off the front axle and hand it to the rear. Tune it like a muscle car and it understeers everywhere.

Suspension and bars are the inversion made concrete: soft front, stiff rear. Stiffen the rear bar and springs to loosen the tail and point the nose; keep the front soft and compliant so the driven wheels stay planted.

The Differential still locks on loose for traction, but opens further on grip than a rear-drive car would — a tight driven diff on tarmac just adds understeer as it fights your steering. Keep the coast side low: too much lock there makes the nose push on entry.

Brakes sit forward of a rear-drive car since the front does the stopping anyway — but keep a slice of rear brake dialled in on purpose, because it helps the light tail rotate on entry.

Why these changes

Asphalt’s grip exposes FWD’s exit understeer most clearly — the front runs out of grip trying to steer and drive at once. Stiffen the rear further, lower the car, firm the front to use the grip, and open the diff so it stops fighting your steering.

Add more front negative camber too, and keep a slice of rear brake so you do not lose the entry rotation you rely on.

Why these changes

Gravel is where a disciplined FWD driver is competitive, and it sits close to the hybrid setup. Lift-off oversteer becomes the tool — back off to rotate the light rear, point the nose, then drive out in a straight line.

Practise the rotate-then-drive rhythm until it is automatic; setup alone will not do it.

Why these changes

Mud is the worst surface for a front-drive car — the driven front wheels dig in and understeer is the default. You cannot power through it, so soften the front, raise the ride height, and lock the diff up to pull the nose out of corners.

Brake early and light, and get all your rotation done on the entry lift; the setup only helps if the technique matches it.

Hybrid = a do-everything setup; each surface tab shows what to change from it. A generic front-drive baseline to test against your own feel — the game stock tune (identical for every car) sits mid-range of these.

Front-wheel-drive cars ask for the opposite of a muscle car: the enemy is understeer, especially power-on understeer out of corners, and the light rear is a tool to fight it. The Hybrid tab on the left is an all-round setup that does OK on any surface, in the game’s real sliders and units; each surface tab shows what to change from it. Gamepad players: Steering Ratio one notch slower than shown.
