Why these numbers

The Gizmo is tiny and light with a short wheelbase, so it darts into corners and rotates readily — sometimes too readily, since it carries pronounced lift-off oversteer on loose surfaces. That rotation is a tool, but it can bite, so the rear is stiff without going overboard. Soft front, firm rear points the nose, and you lean on the light chassis to carry corner speed rather than power.

The differential governs the driven front wheels: locked on loose to put the weak power down, opener on grip so it stops fighting your steering. Keep the coast side low — the light rear already comes round on the lift, so you do not need much braking lock to rotate it. Gear it short and keep the little engine in its torque out of slow corners.

Why these changes

Asphalt’s grip exposes exit understeer as the driven front runs out of grip. Stiffen the rear, drop the car, firm the front, and open the diff so it stops fighting your steering out of the corner.

Add front negative camber to plant the outside edge, but do not chase more rear stiffness — the light tail already rotates on lift, and overdoing it makes the car snappy on grip.

Why these changes

Gravel suits the Gizmo — it sits close to the hybrid setup and the lift-off rotation becomes a genuine weapon. Back off to bring the nose round, then feed the power in and carry the momentum out.

Keep corrections tiny; on a pad the short wheelbase means a big stick input overshoots fast, and this car is already eager to rotate.

Why these changes

Mud punishes the weak power-down worst — the driven front wheels dig and the nose pushes. Soften the front, raise the ride height, and lock the diff up so both front wheels claw the car out together.

The light rear will still rotate on the lift, so let the entry do the turning and roll smoothly onto the power; you cannot bully your way out of mud with this little engine.

Overview

The Gizmo is a small front-wheel-drive car, and it asks for a completely different driving style than the muscle cars. It is light, it turns in fast, and it carries speed through flowing corners that would have a heavier car pushing wide. What it does not do is put power down cleanly out of slow corners — the driven front wheels are also the steering wheels, and asking them to do both at once is where a FWD car loses time.

How it drives

Turn-in is sharp and the front end bites hard, so on tarmac the Gizmo is a point-and-shoot car through medium and fast corners. The trouble starts at corner exit: get greedy with the throttle before the wheel is straight and the front washes into understeer. The car is fast when you are patient with your right foot and slow when you are not.

On dirt and gravel it lifts-off-oversteers more than the muscle cars — back off the throttle mid-corner and the light rear will rotate, which you can use to point the nose before feeding the power back in. This is the FWD trick for loose surfaces: rotate on the lift, drive out straight.

In a pack the Gizmo is vulnerable. It is light, so contact moves it, and a solid hit from a muscle car will spin it. Its defence is agility — stay off the racing line when you can and use its direction changes to avoid getting pinned.
