Throttle Control and Corner Exit

Throttle is a steering input — how to rotate on the lift and drive out clean on one smooth build of power.

The throttle is not just a speed control — it is a steering input. What you do with your right foot moves weight around the car and changes how it turns as much as the wheel does. Once you feel that, corner exit stops being about mashing the trigger and becomes about timing one smooth build of power. This is the partner skill to braking on loose surfaces: braking gets the car slowed and pointed, throttle drives it out.

Lifting rotates, squeezing drives

Lift off the power and weight shifts forward. That loads the front, frees the rear, and the nose tucks into the corner — a useful way to rotate a car that is running wide. But a sharp lift in a rear-drive car can snap the rear loose all at once, so ease off rather than jerking your foot back. Squeeze the power on and weight moves rearward, feeding traction to the driven wheels. Ask for more than the surface can hold and the rears spin up and step out — power oversteer. A torque-forward muscle car like the Hurricane will do this the moment you get greedy on a loose exit.

The fast exit is one build of power

Get the car slowed and pointed first, then start unwinding the steering as you feed a single, continuous build of throttle toward full. The steering opens up and the power comes on together, in one motion. The mistake is winding power on early and then having to back out of it because the car is not pointed yet — every time you lift and reapply you unsettle the car and lose drive. Slower and smoother off the corner beats fast-then-corrected every time.

On loose surfaces, steer with your right foot

When grip is low, the throttle does more of the steering than the wheel does. Roll the power on smoothly and let the car drive out of its rotation rather than trying to straighten it with your hands. Wheelspin here is lost drive, not free speed — spinning rears are not putting power down, they are just scrubbing. Feel for the point where the tyres are gripping and hold the power just under it. On a gamepad

The trigger is coarse, so squeeze it rather than stab it — a stab spikes the rears loose before you feel it happening. Make the build progressive and give yourself small inputs to work with. Brake and settle the car earlier than feels necessary so that by the time you reach the exit there is nothing left to fix and the throttle build can be one clean, uninterrupted motion.
